Resources

Taking up fiction writing has been quite the learning curve. Here are some resources I have found useful, you might too!

Learning

For a comprehensive overview of writing process, publishing and book marketing you cannot go past Mr Hugh Howey author of my favourite book Wool. Don’t know what Kerning is? Hugh does. Unsure of self pub v trad pub? Hugh has done both. Seriously it is excellent! Go on take a look.

Sometimes you just need an independent assessment of your work. I used the Manuscript Agency who were fast and cost effective.

I adore Masterclass they offer a cost effective range of online lectures from experts with a wide variety of specialisations including Margaret Atwood, Dan Brown, James Patterson and Neil Gaiman.

Did you know my home town Melbourne is one of only two UNESCO Cities of Literature? A veritable writing world can be found here at the State Library and online at our The Wheeler Centre  including short courses, competitions, advice and writing events like The Emerging Writers Festival.

Networking

Lots of wonderful writing groups online but I particularly love Australian Speculative Fiction and Knights of the scifi round table absolutely the best facebook groups – supportive, informative and educational. Check  them out!

Production

Early days but I have found these editors incredibly generous, fast and easy to work with – Lynne Stringer and Anita Vermaak (anitavermaak@gmail.com).

Just wait there’s more!

As I discover more useful resources I will share them here so come back soon or drop me a line and let me know how your writing journey is going.
